Mono Thread Lift Cardiff at Refresh Skin Studio

PDO (Polydioxanone) Threads are a soluble synthetic material that has been used for more than 30 years, used in many surgeries worldwide.  Scientific research has proved that PDO threads not only tighten the skin but also stimulate the re-production of collagen and ultimately elastin.  The Hyaluronic acid in the PDO thread lift treatments are important requirements for a more youthful and slightly plumper face, thereby offering results similar to that of a facelift without the need for invasive surgery.

What areas can be treated with PDO Threads?

Lower face – These tend to be the most successful and satisfying, based on the area’s patients more often noticing signs of skin ‘loosening’ in these areas first;-

  • Neck
  • Jaw line
  • Mid-Face
  • Chin Area

This does not preclude other areas of the face from being treated and results being that of what the patient would expect, though other treatments are often more preferable to treat these areas.

  • Forehead (Brow lift)
  • Nose to mouth lines (Nasolabial folds)
  • Marionette lines (vertical mouth lines)
  • Eye Bags (are beneath the eyes)

The Procedure

At the start of the procedure a local anaesthetic is inserted into the area/s being treated with tiny injections (this maybe considered the most painful part of this process). The PDO threads are inserted beneath the skin via a cannula (a very fine needle, especially designed to achieve a smooth and comfortable treatment very fine needles,), into the fat or muscle layers. The lifting effect at his point depending on the areas being treated is almost instant.

How long does the procedure take?

This depends on the area/s being treated, though on average between 1-2 hours. As mentioned the ‘lifting impact’ can be seen immediately, but the process of inducing collagen taking a little longer means the full effects build up and improve over a period of around 5-6 months, during which time your skill will continue to improve, becoming firmer and more youthful in appearance.

What is the recovery time?

You wouldn’t want to plan any big social events during the first couple of days, whilst the results are settling down, but following this there is no reason why you shouldn’t fully resume to your everyday routine / social commitments.

Patient Suitability

All patients wishing to progress with PDO Threading would initially require a consultation with a fully qualified / trained doctor. Whilst the procedure is more suitable for patients within a specific age range, generally mid 40’s upwards, we are aware that the effects of ageing can become apparent earlier than this, ageing is generally associated with the skin tissue thinning due to the breakdown in collagen, resulting in skin sagging, creases becoming more prominent and ultimately wrinkles appearing.

If a patient is against having face lift surgery, but still commands the results of a ‘mini face lift’, PDO thread lifts can be a very effective alternative.

Post Treatment Care & Advice

  • Slight bruising is to be expected – Should this apply, liberally apply arnica gel a few times a day
  • Use of a mild analgesics may be advised in case of any discomfort – NO NOT use any anti-inflammatory medication
  • Avoid sleeping on the areas treated for at least 3 days
  • Avoid touching the treated area during the first 4-5 hours post treatment
  • Avoid dental treatments for at least 1 week post treatment
  • No facial treatments for a minimum of 4 weeks (No laser treatments for 10 weeks) post treatment
  • Avoid extreme temperature (particularly heat) on your treated area for a minimum of 2 weeks
  • Be patient – Whilst immediate results are visible, it is important to remember it will take a minimum of 2 weeks for the collagen to begin working.

Contraindications for thread lift therapy include:

When performed by an experiences Thread-lift surgeon, the procedure is very safe, however as with any type of surgery be it surgical / non they all come with some risks.

One of the most common and likely complications of the PDO Thread lift which would generally happen within the first 6 weeks following the procedure is Infection, symptoms of this include fever, tenderness, redness and on occasions swelling. This is the majority of instances that this does occur it can be treated with a course of antibiotics

Occasional although rare patients could experience some numbness or lack of sensitivity in the area/s that have been treated. Whilst one of the main advantages of this type of surgery is preferred due also to the lack of scarring, this is still classed in a very small number of cases as a possible side affect.

Due to there being no actual skin removed to perform the ‘lift’, some patients may experience a slight puckering of the skin where it has been pulled tighter. That said due to the nature of where the threads are inserted, this should be hidden in you hairline and should resolve itself over time.
